Blossom time is beginning!! Nature is literally waking up in front of our eyes, with the cherries and plums showing their glorious blossom first, whilst the pears and apples wait to be the second act.
In Japan there is a whole season of festivals in parks to celebrate the cherry blossom, (Sakura), and in recent years that has been used as a hashtag on social media to show blossom from across the globe. Japanese gardening history fascinates me. The attention to detail in Japanese designed and managed parks and gardens is extraordinary and a lesson to us all, should we choose to take it!
Anyway this article https://time.com/4710635/cherry-blossoms-history/ has lots of info about the history of Sakura.
And in the meantime here are some blossom photos I’ve taken in urban parks and gardens over the years-enjoy 💚
This week I’ve been listening to Phillips Gregory’s Normal Women podcast which I’d highly recommend. The first episode is called Normal Women riot and is a great introduction to women who were involved in all sorts of uprisings and land campaigns.
I’ve also started seed sowing, now we’re post Equinox. Cabbages, kales, kohl rabi, alongside Tagetes and calendula are starting to slowly appear…..
Until next week…..
The blossoms out are making me so happy right now. And thanks for the podcast recommendation--I have Normal Women the book on my to-read list but didn't know there was a podcast!
